Aliy Zirkle:
Aliy is a young, shinning star within the mushing community. Her dedication to her dogs has gained her the respect of all who know her. She is the only woman to have won the Yukon Quest, which is no small feat.

Since winning the Quest in 2000, she has moved on to Iditarod. “I’m in the learning curve right now.” There is a big difference between the Yukon Quest and Iditarod races. It takes time to understand the intricacies of the trail, the demands on the dogs and musher.

“I want my team to be the best it can be. They have to have the best in order to be the best.” Aliy is in one of the best training areas in Alaska. Conditions are ideal for training and conditioning. Aliy has been feeding Eagle Power for most of her career in mushing. This year she stepped up to Eagle Ultra Power during the training and racing season. “Superior nutrition is essential if you want to get the most out of training. No matter how hard or how long you train, if you don’t have the right fuel for the furnace, you won’t get the maximum benefit from your training efforts.”

When not racing, Aliy and her sister Kaz have an artic tour business. Imagine spending a week with a sled dog team traveling through the pristine Gates of the Artic National Park and Preserve. “We carry all that we will need for the week in the sleds. Weight is critical; we don’t take anything we don’t need. Feeding Eagle Ultra Power to the dogs has allowed us to carry far less weight in the sleds. We get so much energy from Ultra that it is no longer necessary to supplement the dry food with meat and fat. That means less weight for the dogs to carry.”
